The Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre (JCCC) is honoured to partner with the Japanese Canadian Legacies Society (JCLS) to support the travel and accommodations of up to twenty (20) Japanese Canadian (JC) survivors* living in the Golden Horseshoe area within Ontario, to attend the October 3, 2026 opening of the Japanese Canadian Monument in Victoria, British Columbia.
Online registration to attend will open on the JCCC website on August 12, 2026 at 10am EST and will close once the registration and 10-person waitlist are filled. Only individual JC survivors can register, once per person. A caregiver/travel companion may stay in the same room with the JC Survivor, but no additional accommodation, transportation, and other associated costs will be provided. Once a survivor has been registered and their eligibility verified, they will receive an information package from JCLS, including information on accommodations and the process for reimbursement.
For those wishing to experience the monument on other days, it will be open from October 4, 2026 onwards. Site tours are also being organized for October 4, 5, 6, and 7, 2026 via the link: https://japanesecanadianmonument.eventbrite.ca.

*JC Survivors, as defined by JCLS, are living persons of Japanese descent, born prior to April 1, 1949, who were directly impacted by the British Columbia government action in the 1940’s. The monument wall features the names of all Japanese Canadians uprooted in 1942 AND a second set of names of children born after uprooting and up to and including March 31, 1949, after which freedom to return to the coast was fully granted.
