Interview with Sachiko Okuda

Sachiko Okuda was born in Verdun, Quebec, a part of the Greater Montreal Area. In this interview, she discusses her early childhood memories of being from a non-diverse area, her education, and then her volunteer work for Redress. The interview is primarily focused on her work with Redress, as she recounts the march on Parliament Hill and the day that settlement was reached. She then discusses the impact that the fight for Redress positively had on her engagement with the Japanese Canadian community, as she transitioned to working with the Ottawa Japanese Canadian Association up until the near present. She also discusses the positive impact the community has had on her and her family’s perception of their heritage.
