Haru Matsuri (Spring Festival)
Get ready for spring as we hold our annual Haru Matsuri on Saturday March 3 and Sunday March 4 from 12:00pm to 5:00pm (both days).
This year’s theme is Cranes. Shortly after we held our Spring Festival last year, the Tohoku region in Japan experienced the devastating earthquake and tsunami. The JCCC Foundation responded by forming the Japan Earthquake Relief Fund. Along with this fundraising, we also created an initiative in conjunction with the GTA school boards. Many volunteers went out to schools to raise awareness by teaching children to fold origami cranes and create Senbazuru (1000 crane mobiles for good luck). The students also wrote letters of support and encouragement to their counterparts in the affected regions. With the upcoming anniversary, we felt this theme was an opportunity to renew our commitment and encouragement for recovery in the region and to recognize the progress that has been made in such a short period of time.
