The JCCC and the Japan Foundation is proud to present a special screening of the 2008 Academy Award-winning masterpiece, Departures. The screening will be an especially special event the director, Yojiro Takita, will join us to introduce his film , take questions after the movie and participate in an informal post-film meet-and-greet. Departures also received 10 Japanese Academy Awards.
The films stars Masahiro Motoki as a professional cellist who retuns to his old hometown with his wife and becomes a "Nokanshi" or "encoffineer," a funeral professional who prepares deceased bodies for burial and entry into the next life. The film follows his profound and sometimes comical journey with death as he uncovers the wonder, joy and meaning of life and living.
